In this blog post I really want to ask you a serious question that will really get you thinking. But first we need to read from Mark 12:41-44(ESV):
Mark 12:41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
This is by far one of my favorite stories from the Bible period. The widow had only two lepta which was equivalent to a penny to her name, she was a widow so her husband had passed away, children have moved out by now or they are dead too, yet she put the lepta in the treasury box. This women gave God her the last of her money.
Jesus goes on to say “Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put more in than all those who are contributing to the offering box.” This women was in no position to give money yet she did. When God sent His son Jesus to die on a cross for our sins he didn’t ask for much compared to what He did was worth.Instead He asked that we dedicate our lives to Him.
Lets look at it this way, God gave his life for you and I shouldnt we want to give our everything to Him. Jesus wants all of us the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of us. He is simply saying “surrender unto me your everything”. That leads me to the thought provoking question I wanted to ask: What Is Your Lepta?
What I want you to do is take sometime in prayer after you finish reading this and surrender to God your two lepta, your everything. Essentially give God what He deserves which is all of you.
